Part-time Playgroup Co-ordinator


Kapiti Uniting Parish is seeking to employ a person for 11 hours per week, to lead and co-ordinate Playgroups for parents/carers and preschool children, two mornings a week during primary school terms, including pastoral support to families. The overall aim of the Playgroups is to support and enhance outreach activities of the Parish by providing a place for parents/caregivers and young children to meet on a regular basis within a secure, caring and supportive environment that reflects the essential tenets of the Christian faith.


The Playgroup Co-ordinator will be responsible for the two existing playgroups within the Parish:


Raumati Playgroup                  Monday              9.30 am to 11.30 am

Waikanae Playgroup                Friday                  9.30 am to 11.30 am

Personal specifications:


  • The Playgroup Co-ordinator will need an understanding of local communities as well as the Kapiti Uniting Parish and its place and influence in the community.

  • As this is an essential part of the outreach ministry of the Parish the Playgroup Co-ordinator will demonstrate the Christian faith and build links with the Ministry team and other church members in the Parish.

  • Appropriate qualifications, which may include a teaching background in early childhood or primary, previous Playcentre experience or qualifications. Previous experience in any of the helping professions and a desire to participate in an appropriate way in this outreach programme of the Parish may also be considered.

  • The Co-ordinator will be capable of meeting all aspects of the job description in a responsible and committed way. Oversight will be provided by the Playgroup’s support committee and individual support will be available from a designated experienced person on a regular basis in order to achieve desired outcomes.

  • Have a clean current driver’s licence.

  • Hold a current My Vaccine Pass.

  • The following may be completed at the time of employment: police vetting process and criminal convictions check including traffic infringements.

  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
